We’re happy to announce our first new starter of the year, Danny Boxer who joins the team as Junior Designer. Our Technical Director James Ewin put together a little questionnaire for Danny to fill out which you can see below, including some of Danny’s personal designs for his ongoing side project.
So Danny, welcome to team ORCA. How have your first few weeks been?
Super good, honestly a dream come true to fall into such a cool studio with not one, but two dogs! I’ve been thrown straight into some really great projects and I’m buzzing to see what the year brings.
Tell us a bit about yourself, what did you do before this?
Aha, well I freelanced for around 5 years, interlaced with a couple of internships and a 2 year working holiday over on the West coast of Canada. I’ve only recently moved to Bristol but it feels great to settle down for a bit.
What originally made you want to become a graphic designer?
It’s hard to put it down to one thing – I’ve always been really into visuals, I take a lot of inspiration from skate graphics and streetwear so maybe it was them. My family are all pretty creative so I guess it’s in my blood haha.
What would you say is your strongest design skill?
I honed my skills creating logos, and I feel really at home jumping into a new brief and creating concept work. I spend a lot of time reworking ideas and fine tuning to an almost silly point, so yeah logos are my thing.
Who or what has been the biggest single influence on your way of creative thinking?
Kind of a mix of Virgil Abloh and Aaron Draplin.
