Goodbye 2021

After the turmoil of 2020, this year has brought with it a sense of change, of possibility and a new found resilience. It’s been a hugely exciting year, with some major structural changes - and with it, a renewed focus and energy.

After A LOT of working from home in 2020, the team were excited to get back into the studio together, to share ideas, collaborate and have fun. In turn, we completely revamped our studio space to make the most of being back and it's brought with it a new wave of creativity and productivity.

2021 has seen us secure a number of brand new clients, all of which align with ORCA’s refined purpose, values and mission, and which we can be super proud to shout about!

We’ve reimagined the brand narrative and digital experience for a network-driven, workspace incubator. Completely overhauled the brand identity of a renowned design education platform. Built a national brand awareness campaign for Brighton’s most iconic landmark and museum. Refined the brand for a sustainable, award winning supplements brand. Built a new visual identity for the world's first social TV streaming discovery platform and reimagined the brand and customer experience of an innovative workforce analytics software. To name a few.

All the while, we’ve managed to work on our own purpose-driven awareness projects, including 'In Moderation' - a campaign focused around negative behavioural traits and mental wellbeing. We tackled topics such as sleep deprivation, social media, alcohol consumption, recreational drug use and negative body image, all through the power of design.

The last quarter has seen us secure more purpose-driven clients within the healthcare, tech and B2B services sectors. We look forward to launching these and sharing them with the world in the New Year.

The ORCA crew

This year we’ve welcomed Rosie and Sam to the team, and they’ve slotted right in - both bringing a huge amount of value and energy with them to strengthen our core delivery and output. We also look forward to welcoming our new Kickstarter, George, to the team in January, alongside a couple of other new additions in the following months.

And of course, a huge thank you to Leah Foster, who recently completed a 3 month internship program with us and absolutely nailed it!

Other highlights & features

We've also had a few exciting highlights and features this year. ORCA's new website was chosen as a 'Muzli Top Pick' and mentioned as a great design and digital inspiration resource. It also bagged a CSS Design Special Kudos Award in the UI, UX and Innovation categories. Our work fo was shortlisted for the CreativePool Annual 2021 Awards in the categories of both Branding and Packaging - and where ORCA were also featured as a Company Spotlight in the same month. The project also received a nice little feature in Dieline & Design Week, highlighting ORCA's involvement in the RTD seltzer movement. Our founder, James, also gave a talk for Right Aligned, covering ORCA's journey, the challenges we've faced and our plans for the future. James was also invited onto the Anti Hustle Hustle Club podcast where he discussed ORCA's purpose-driven approach, prioritising one's mental health and wellbeing, micro-habits, being comfortable with pushing clients out of their comfort zone and much more.

Overall this has been one of our most significant and important years to date, in terms of growth, culture and output, and we're hugely proud of the work we've produced and of the great relationships we've formed. It's great to end the year on such a high.

Thanks so much for reading. We've got loads more to show you in the new year and can't wait to continue working with our current partners and to forge new relationships in 2022. Merry Christmas from Team ORCA

We'll be taking a short break this Christmas to spend time with family and friends and to enjoy the festivities! The studio will be closed from COP on Friday 24th December until Tuesday 4th January.
