The Client
Roland DG, founded in 1981, is a global leader in digital printing, engraving, and 3D modelling solutions. Renowned for its innovation and quality, they are the world’s leading provider of wide-format inkjet printers for the durable graphics market.
The Challenge
Roland DG was launching its fastest printer yet - the TrueVIS XP-640 - at the 'Roland DG Grand Print' event at the iconic Monza Race Track, known as the "Temple of Speed.” With the event's theme rooted in speed, power and performance, highlighted by Roland's partnership with the BWT Alpine F1 Team, the visual identity needed to reflect these high-performance qualities. The challenge was to create a bold, on-brand and impactful design, whilst boosting brand awareness at this high-profile event.
The Process
We began by exploring how the graphics could convey a sense of movement and speed, connecting both the Monza Race Track and the impressive speed of Roland’s latest printer, the XP-640. We focused on using colour and dynamic design elements to create an impactful, event-relevant visual identity. Drawing inspiration from the blurred effect of moving cars on a slow shutter speed, we used these elements as a foundation to develop a design that was not only on-brand but also perfectly aligned with the high-speed theme of the event.
The Solution
For the Roland DG Grand Print event branding and collateral, we landed on a dynamic blue and pink colour palette inspired by the BWT Alpine F1 Team’s iconic hues. Taking these colours we merged them together to create a gradient, which became a signature element of the event’s visual identity.
For the event logo, we nodded to the style of the F1 brand, through the shape of the type and used the negative space between the letters "GP" (short for "Grand Print") to subtly form an "X," referencing the launch of the XP-640 printer.
This "X" motif was further integrated into the overall brand as a design element, featuring a blue and pink gradient, alongside a layered parallax effect. This effect intended to mimic how objects appear at high speeds, tying into the event's high-speed theme.
The cohesive visual identity extended across all event materials, including stationery, signage, clothing, accessories, banners, and promotional items, ensuring a memorable and impactful brand presence throughout the entire event.
